Brainstorming

What do you currently like about the Freerooms V2 design?

  • Minimalist, round design

  • Likes the orange colour

  • Sidebar (don’t have to go on separate page to see buildings)

What do you not like about it?

  • Material UI

  • Hate how everything is messy and all on one page (hard to add more functionality)

  • Complementary colours?

  • Need a similar footer to the rest of the projects.

  • Need to seperate landing page (essentially just the below and a wizard to guide people along).

  • current list page and the map page.

Closer look at Freerooms. We need a walkthrough of:

  • The different pages

  • The typical user workflow

  • Admin workflow + any other user flow

  • Scroll down from landing page to see the buildings or click the button

  • Click building to see more info

  • Different types of filters

  • Mobile app skips sidebar and goes straight to a separate page

  • Map

  • Calendar and clock - you set these to see what is available (considering setting it as a criteria instead)

  • In the future, if you click on a room i.e. G5, it will show you more information about the room i.e. photos

  • Personalisation

    • i.e. favourite classes, dark mode, list view

  • Keep the sidebar for building stuff for desktop but navigate to different page for mobile.

  • Freerooms to send through disclaimer etc.

What pages would you like us to prioritise first (probably a page where it’s a blocker if you don’t have a design)? When are you expecting this by?

  • Search bar (similar to Uni-lectives)

    • Search date, time, name

    • Filter by type of room (tut or lecture hall), room capacity, how long the room is free for, location (upper or lower campus).

    • Display what filters are selected.

  • Sometime during term 1

Response to the form that we sent out.

  • Be able to see multiple buildings at once in the mobile app like what the apple maps app has (smaller images etc).

New logo? (Considering different logos for web apps and for native apps)

  • Current logo is too complex. Needs to be more flat or minimalistic.

  • The text “Freerooms” is using a google font so needs a license.

  • Idea from Bob: Room/box with a parallax/different perspective effect.

Why a native app?

  • Main use case: on campus

  • Website is inconvenient and not mobile-friendly, need to improve mobile experience

  • Potential use case as a navigation tool similar to Lost on Campus

  • Opinions on PWAs

    • May as well make the website mobile responsive

    • Freerooms needs internet to function. Does a PWA support functionality offline?
