Extending Current Duration

The projects this time around are pretty ambitious we also spent 2 weeks on HTML + CSS (more thoughts on this later).

Future Duration

Good time frame to get taste of working in a team on an actual project

Too short to do anything major

Some potential approaches if we want to increase duration:

• Increase duration → larger scale project → more fun

• After 1 term, people leave/stay → People who stay work on larger scale project

  • This can actually kickstart the dev consulting idea where we reach out to charities/other societies and build things for them. It would be super fun to work on something in the real world.

HTML + CSS

Introduced in T1 since jumping straight into React was too hard. But also our time is too limited to waste 2 weeks on this.

Either extend duration or make it self-taught.

Self Taught Approach

• Replace our current interview process (interviewing hundreds of people is unsustainable)

• We give a cool mini-project to make with HTML + CSS during the holidays

• We take in everyone who made something cool

Internal Education Team

Instead of teams teaching themselves the same content separately, we could centralise the process by having a dedicated education team running workshops/dev-sessions for the entire program.

This would:

• Lighten the burden on training leads by shifting them to a more mentor-like role rather than educator + mentor

• Make teams feel less separated as they get to meet each other
